When director Kaiwen Li discovered a battered copy of Michel Gondry’s “Be Kind Rewind Protocols” whereby groups of ten people can conceive, shoot and screen a movie they make all within two and half hours, he enlisted J Fever, the greatest Chinese freestyle rapper, to revive Gondry’s experiment. The subsequent event - dubbed “a Pat on the Head Causes a Dream” - taking place after post-Covid crackdowns, takes on a whole new meaning.
